The Fellowship of the International Society of Surgery recognises eligible ISS/SIC members whose clinical practice, professional standing and commitment reflect the standards of the Society.
FISS is awarded by application. It recognises established surgeons and anesthetists who meet the Society's requirements for training, clinical practice, professional standing and licensure.
Applicants are expected to have completed specialist training and established independent clinical practice.

FISS is a recognition for established members of the Society and forms part of the wider ISS/SIC professional community.

Graduation from a medical school acceptable to the International Society of Surgery.
Full membership of ISS/SIC for at least five years.
At least five years of clinical practice after completion of surgical or anesthetic training.
A current specialist appointment and independent responsibility for patient care in the relevant discipline.
Appropriate national specialist certification and a full, unrestricted licence to practise.
A current Certificate of Standing from the relevant registering medical authority is required.
Submit the application information and supporting professional documentation required by ISS/SIC.
ISS/SIC may request information needed to verify training, specialist status, licensure and professional standing.
Applications for Fellowship are considered by the Council of the Society.
Successful applicants are notified and may use the letters FISS after their name.
A Fellow remains part of the ISS/SIC membership community and retains the membership privileges that apply to their membership status.
